Why did you become a Nurse Practitioner?
I remember working in a clinic as a Medical Assistant and turning to a Nurse one day and saying, “once you work the patient up, don’t you want to go back in with the doctor to hear everything that’s going on and find out what the treatment plan is?” She said, “that’s not our job” and I knew then and there that I wanted differently. I enrolled in college and started at the very basics- math, english and science with all these younger students. But I was determined. I went straight through and when I look back, I am grateful that I am where I am 18 years later and I’ve never made a better decision in my life!
What advice would you give someone starting out in your field/profession?
First and foremost, stay true to your passion! Work hard in school and do not get discouraged! If this is the goal you want to achieve know that you can do it!
Why did you choose to work locums?
Locums sounded intriguing to me after years of Primary Care. I enjoy working in different areas. As a locum, I have the privilege of learning a lot about different regions and the communities in which I am working. Plus, I love traveling!
