Cross Country Locums News

At Cross Country Locums, our expert recruiters are known for being sociable, upbeat, problem-solvers. They love getting to know providers, learning about their qualifications, researching positions, and finding the perfect match. Time and time again, our staffing professionals say they delight in the connections they are able to build with providers – especially when they have the opportunity to forge longer-term relationships! It’s just one of the details that makes the field so enjoyable.

Recently, Kelly Berrall, Senior Physician Recruiter with Cross Country Locums, shared about one of these cherished relationships and what it has meant to her over the years.

Kelly received an email from the family of a physician she had worked with for nearly a decade to let her know he had recently passed away. The physician’s family member told Kelly:

“…I know you were so helpful to him, and he appreciated all that you did to help him with job placements…our family is grateful for all you did…Thank you again."

Kelly was saddened to hear this news and reflected on the time they had together in a recent social media post:

“Dayton was my first ever physician placement. We worked together for 8 years until about 1.5 years ago when he knew it was time to hang up the stethoscope. Later that year, he went to visit his grandkids in AZ and shortly after checked himself into a nursing home in South Dakota back home. With age, his health was declining.

Dayton always humored me. He was like a grandfather of a close friend that you get to know over time. In the past, I've asked physician partners to send me postcards from their assignments. The first assignment he ever took with me was actually my first placement as a recruiter…he of course chose to send me a 1 cent post card for fun…That 1 cent post card has been framed next to my work desk since it was received, and it will stay there as a celebration of a life well lived. An imperfect but good egg and a great doctor that devoted his life to medicine.”

Thanks for sharing, Kelly. We’re proud to work with recruiters and providers like you and Dayton each day.
